White Water Rafting is one of the best ways to get to see a country´s scenery. South America happens to be home to some of the most spectacular, world-renowned rafting in the world, so if you are visiting or living here, please do not miss some of these rafting opportunities.
Brazil, Paraibuna River
This river made the list, not because of its difficulty, but of its amazing location close to Rio de Janeiro. You can be dancing in the city at night, and rafting this river in the morning. It is less than 2 hours from Rio by car. So if you love the city life, but find that you need to get out and get some fresh air, head over to the Paraibuna.
The Paraibuna may not be the most challenging river on this list, but do not underestimate it. It boasts a full 20 km or Class III and Class IV rapids, and will have even experienced rafters on the edge of their seat at times.Argentina, Manso River
The Manso River -whose name means calm- is one of the most beautiful water courses crossing the Nahuel Huapi National Park.At the beginning, the rapids are mild and present low difficulty. This way, the paddlers can gradually become adapted to the conditions. But when the raft leaves the Terciopelo ravine, the pulse and the movements start to accelerate. Soon enough, the Manso loses its temper and gives shape to some violent class-IV torrents. This river is definitely a Patagonian highlight, and is not to be missed if you are in the Bariloche area.
Chile, Futaleufu River
The Futaleufu River, with its gorgeous turquoise colored water, pours dramatically through a breathtaking canyon of indescribable beauty boasting one impressive rapid after another. The vertical black basalt walls form the Gates of the Inferno Canyon, and the most demanding and committing section of the Futaleufu contain several serious and continuous Class V drops. This river is not for the faint of heart.Just below the canyon, the Futaleufu River widens with spectacular views of the Las Escalas Valley after which you encounter the rapids “Zeta” and “Throne Room”. Following these, you raft the “Wild Mile
