Top 5: Upscale Peruvian Restaurants in Buenos Aires

For those out of the loop, or simply not living in Buenos Aires Argentina, Peruvian has taken the city by storm in the past few years.  While most people can appreciate a good neighborhood spot filled with locals (immigrant locals) that serve all the classics, the higher end Peruvian restaurants have much to offer when it comes to flavor and originality.  For this reason we here at Oasis have generously decided to reveal to you our top 5 choices for upscale Peruvian Restaurants in Buenos Aires.  Happy eating!

Contigo Peru

A decade ago Contigo Peru was a neighborhood restaurant that catered to local railroad workers and travelers passing through. Today, the place has changed completely, offering delectable Peruvian dishes in a classic and timeless setting. Although located outside the main gastronomic zones of Buenos Aires, Contigo Peru is worth a visit, especially for the ceviche, causas, and jalea, three traditional Peruvian dishes that can be found in every restaurant in the country. Plus, the restaurant often plays host to several Argentine celebrities, so even if you don’t know who they are, you might still end up star-struck!

Paru

Located in fashionable Palermo Hollywood, Paru offers a unique fusion of Peruvian and Japanese cuisine, and let’s just say it’s a good combination! The chef is the creator of another fusion restaurant called Osaka, and Paru follows in its cousin’s footsteps with delicious dishes that cleverly combine elements of both traditional Peruvian and Japanese cuisine. Classic Peruvian plates such as ceviche, tiraditos, and chalaquitas (a common Peruvian appetizer) appear alongside sushi rolls and woks on the mouthwatering menu, and each dish is exquisitely prepared and presented.

Astrid & Gaston

As one of the more expensive options for gourmet Peruvian food in Buenos Aires, Astrid & Gaston delivers a spectacular menu. The locale is decorated in neo-baroque style designed to evoke memories of the richness and glory of the early Peruvian empires, and the food is a mixture of traditional plates as well as creative combos of Peruvian and Argentine fare, such as noodles sautéed with “bife de chorizo,

Osaka did not make the cut? Is that because it is fusion? Sipan is likely worth mentioning, even if the location is not so upscale. I prefer the simplicity of Chan Chan…although there is nothing glamorous about the place for sure.

Mosoq is FAB – though has been in P/Hollywood for over 3 years now! Was a regular haunt for us when we lived there – real nice staff y onda

Sipan is great for Peruvian/Japanese fusion. It’s the project of an ex-chef from Osaka, and opened back in 2007. Unfortunately due to popularity the prices have risen significantly over the years, but it still delivers delicious and creative dishes and one of the best pisco sours in town (they also have a resto in Punta). Definitely worth a try! (Address: Paraguay 624. http://www.guiaoleo.com.ar/detail.php?ID=3610)
