For The Clubhouse’s first Classic Cocktail Tutorial, head barman Pite van den Bosche presented the Manhattan. This tasty, yet fuerte concoction is a favorite at The Clubhouse, especially as fall is upon us. The harmony between the bitters, the sweet vermouth, and the musky whiskey is a much more palette friendly blend than say, a Fernet and Coke, and its storied history is of interest as well. If you couldn’t make it to the tutorial last week, join us next Tuesday as Pite schools us on another classic.

2 ounces whiskey
1 ounce vermouth
3 dashes of bitters
1 cherry and its juices
Fill a martini glass with ice so that it chills while you prepare the rest of the drink.
Then, fill a mixing glass with ice. Add the whiskey, vermouth and bitters and stir the contents together, making sure to hold the glass at the base so as not to melt the ice cubes, or warm the spirits. After a couple of whirls, add about a ½ teaspoon of the maraschino cherry juice and give the drink another stir.
Remove the ice from your martini glass and strain the cocktail into the glass.

Add a cherry and enjoy!
