MUTO: A Living Wall Mural From Buenos Aires

This living wall mural, which is most likely the result of weapons-grade narcotics and a level of artistic talent that escapes the majority of humans, will make your jaw drop. While Banksy was busy rubbing elbows with Madonna and petitioning the Academy to show up to the Oscars in a monkey suit, the clandestine artist Blu was out on the BA streets, delivering this:

The seven-minute frame-by-frame video took around 8 months to create, which is just over one month per minute for all you Liberal Arts grads, and was shot entirely on the walls of Buenos Aires. And before the self-righteous get up in arms about the ethical questionability of defacing public property, keep in mind that this mural was the recipient of several international awards, like the Grand Prix 2009 from the Festival of Clermont-Ferrand.

Despite the repetitive “head-birthing” that takes place throughout the video, one of the most bizarre elements may be the title, Muto (Silence). The video is far from silent, with a perfect percussive soundtrack provided Andre A Martignoni. Maybe the title was intended to be ironic, or maybe it’s way over my head. Either way, stop reading, press play, and prepare to have your mind blown.
