Casa Mun @ The Oasis Clubhouse

On July 28th The Oasis Clubhouse was thrilled to host fifty folk who turned out for Some Like it Hot.  Everyone munched on delicious food by our friend Chef Mun of Casa Mun – fiery fish tacos, spicy tuna rolls and roast pork buns being some of the favourites from the five courses.  The evening was much fun with Grey Goose cocktails and Finca los Maza wines and some stunning “ladies” helping to get everyone the scrummy food.

The best thing about the evening was that together, AR$ 4,660 was raised for the Hogar San Pablo in Caballito.  We have spent this on a much needed new washing machine with extended guarantee, heaters, a drill and lots of socks.  Chef Mun, Cary (of Casa Mun), Greg (friend who introduced us all to the Hogar), Bill (Oasis Founder) and I headed over last week to go and see the place and meet Patricia, the superhero lady who runs the show.  The Hogar San Pablo is the home to almost fifty boys from young children to 21 year olds who for a mixture of reasons, don’t have a family to live with.  We sat and chatted with Patricia about the place, the challenges and what there is to do.  She has been running things for 20 years and sadly next year their lease is going to be running out and they will need a new home.  They rely almost entirely on donations because the government, who send many of the children their way, don’t support the Hogar enough to even cover the costs of the food needed.

Patricia showed us a couple of the classrooms that they have – some of the children are schooled at the Hogar while others go to local schools.  She then took us upstairs to meet some of the boys.  They were utterly delightful and clearly thrilled to meet some new people.  One of them showed us his very impressive drawings and told us how excited he is to be starting soon at Proyect Arte – a great art program based in Villa Crespo.  They were bright, inquisitive children and it was a pleasure to meet them.

There are a lot of different ways in which help can be offered to the Hogar and we will be working on developing some specific ideas over the next couple of weeks.  It is quite astounding that Patricia and her small team, do such an incredible job with the little resources and support they have.  It won’t be hard to be able to help in different ways and I am excited that we will be planning and setting targets over the next few weeks together with Mun, Cary, Greg and Marcos.  Then we will be out to look for people who are able to join-in and help to achieve the targets – so do email me and let me know if you are interested.  Katharine@oasiscollections.com
