The Lowdown
In the past fifteen years Argentina has emerged as an internationally recognized producer of wine mainly because of the Mendoza region. The area is full of vineyards that produce Malbec, some are located just outside the capital city.
The city itself has a tranquil charm, but the real experience lies in the countryside, where you can enjoy the wine tastings. Suburban areas such as Chacras de Coria and Lujan de Cuyo are located near the city, and are home to some of the top vineyards in the region; further afield visitors can find more private homes and boutique hotels nestled among the vineyards on both large-scale and boutique wineries. Mendoza is located on the Chilean border, amongst the dramatic backdrop of the Andes Mountain, whose high, dry climate makes for favorable wine-cultivating conditions.
