Today we are thrilled to launch our much-anticipated Clubhouse Winter Mix produced by The Clubhouse’s resident DJ Whitney Weiss.
So what does the international DJ do during a weekend in Buenos Aires? Read on to find out where Whitney goes to get a culture fix, grab a coffee or get her dance on.
My weekend officially begins at midnight on Thursdays when Dengue Dancing starts. Dengue is the weekly underground party that I do international booking for (I’m also one of the resident DJs). I played last Thursday, but try to go to dance even if I’m not spinning. When Bjork was in town, she showed up at the door with her entourage of statuesque blonde Scandinavian dancers and they hung out and drank vodka. Aside from that, it’s usually low-key and avant-gardish, packed with artists and the cute/broke. Lolo, one of the founders, calls it “geeks meet rockers downtown,” and that about sums it up. Gong, the venue where it happens, has been preserved in nightlife ether and left unchanged since the 1970s, so the decor alone is worth the trip.

Friday nights are always work nights. This week, I get the pleasure of playing the official arteBA after-party at The Oasis Clubhouse, where I’m the resident DJ. Sets at The Clubhouse are consistently the highlight of my week, since it means a chance to chat with the always-charming Emily, try out whatever new drink Pite (The Clubhouse’s barman) is mixing, and revel in a booth with a view. It’s definitely my favorite space in the city; I’d say that even if I wasn’t the resident here.
Before my set at The Clubhouse, I’m checking out a new play by my friends Lolo and Lauti called Liceo. They described it to me as a twinkstallation, so clearly I have high expectations. Their one-act adaptation of Ricky Martin’s autobiography was a triumph in good theater and bad taste, so I’m looking forward to what they’ve come up with this time. I think Liceo runs for a few more weeks, so if you’re reading this, you should go.
Needless to say, Saturdays usually start late–unless I am DJing brunch at The Clubhouse, in which case they start bleary-eyed and with a Bloody Mary. Sometimes I’ll take meetings during the afternoon, or combine meetings with beverages, or if it’s with Grant from ZZK/WUBA, breakfast tacos, since he’s a real- life adult male who cooks and remembers to do things like keep food in his refrigerator. We’re working on something quite cool right now, but I can’t talk about it quite yet. I’ll putter in Villa Crespo or Palermo, then head home and start to get ready for the evening. My preferred Saturday night soundtrack is Cam4Traviesa, which is my friend Nico (DJ Traviesa) live-streaming a set from the comfort of his room before he heads out to DJ elsewhere. He’s been incorporating some next-level lighting lately, too.
Saturdays, you’ll find me DJing anywhere from the big room at Niceto for Fiesta Brandon to the semi-clandestine San Telmo house party You Are Negra. Since it’s BA and things get started late, I can usually grab drinks with friends before we all go our separate ways. This week, I’m heading to Fiesta Eyeliner at some point to see my friend Sura’s band, Liers, play. They’re like the South American equivalent of The Runaways. Also, Eyeliner has a moon bounce and fooseball, two activities
that get considerably more fun when you’re drinking. Sura and I are recording music that sounds like a Prince-supervised union of booty bass, Technotronic, and Cansei De Ser Sexy. I’m looking forward to throwing our songs into my sets sometime soon.

On Sundays, I try to sleep as late as possible while still qualifying as civilized. Once I’m up, I’ll run out and grab coffee somewhere like Café Crespin, then work on music. This Sunday, I need to finish up some June programing for Network Awesome, which is this super-cool, truly innovative internet TV project that is one of my day jobs. After I get creative for them, I’ll rest up, because I’m off to Rio de Janeiro on Monday morning. I’m looking forward to drinking a copious amount of juice and going to an actual beach. Oh, and DJing, of course.
