Although it may seem like “fun” to you, there’s a subtle art and incredible amount of semi-drunken hard work that goes into finding the best bars that a city has to offer. The task becomes even more daunting when attempted in a place like Rio, which is notorious for having some of the best nightlife in the world. Our sheer willpower and perseverance triumphed, however, and we’re now able to proudly give you our list of the best bars in Rio de Janeiro:
 
1.) Paris Lounge
 

 
Observant readers will note that we’ve already commended the restaurant Paris Gastrô as being one of the best restaurants in Rio. As it turns out, the bar side of this establishment, Paris Lounge, makes a pretty mean cocktail. Although they offer a wide range of signature cocktails, they made it on this list because of the Mystérieux. We would tell you what’s in it, but then what’s the point?
 
2.) Cavist
 

 
Take a trip Cavist’s Ipanema location and find the most extensive, exotic, and impressive wine lists in South America. If trying some of the world’s best wine isn’t really your thing, you can also find vodka, grappa, and whiskey on the drinks menu.
 
3.) Prima Bruschetteria
 

 
Although it may look unassuming from the outside, this restaurant hidden in the first floor of the São Conrado Fashion Mall is home to some of the best cocktails that we’ve found. If you can only try one, make it a Caipi Amalfi, a perfect combination of vodka, honey, and basil.
 
4.) Pintxo Taberna Basca
 

 
This tapas joint is the place to go for the best sangria outside of Spain. The laid back atmosphere and outdoor seating makes the experience that much more enjoyable.
 
5.) Entre Tapas
 

 
Last, but certainly not least, is Entre Tapas. If you’re interested in enjoying some of Spain’s best wine in a nineteenth-century mansion in the middle of Botafogo, this is undoubtedly the place for you. If this doesn’t interest you, maybe you should seriously reconsider your interests. The atmosphere of this bar alone is enough to earn it a spot on this list.
